Wherefore Art Thou Natural Beauty?
Tucked away in Brooklyn’s Carroll Gardens is a work of art kind of spa. It’s called the Art of Natural Beauty Center and the name really has truth to it. Customers at this spa rave about looking and feeling more beautiful when they leave than when they come in. After you meet the technicians, who were all trained Russian nurses you’ll understand right away why. Here’s what I think - you can keep dreaming about your natural beauty or you can come to this spa where their trained hands will bring it out of you.
I scheduled an appointment for a European facial at the spa. First thing first, I was offered a cup of tea to warm up and relax with, as it would help me get the best results from the facial. I had just walked in from the rainy outside, my hands were numb from the cold, and I was aching from my shoulder bag that was loaded with gadgety whatnots. Not surprisingly, my mood could have gone either way at that point.
I filled out a quick form about my medical history, which they needed before giving me my treatment. The spa are acclaimed for their laser hair removal and anti-aging services, so of course I couldn’t help but notice their equipment when I was taken to my room. None of that was unnerving, though, with the candle lighting and classical music going on in the background.
I was on the massage table prepped and ready. The facial had a gentle, delicate touch, very soothing. I was almost convinced it was rhythmically set to the music. As an added surprise, my European facial ended with a neck and arm massage, which for me was much needed. When I finally brought myself to move my thoroughly relaxed muscles and sat up, my face felt ten times rejuvenated, and I do mean rejuvenated, as up until then I had been feeling like my skin was lifelessly plastered to my face.
My masseuse Regina was clearly thinking about my skin. Conversely, I was envying her flawless skin. We ended up chatting about skincare products and techniques I might want to try. I have to say, I left the spa feeling like my spirits were lifted by my own beauty that happened to be resonating off my face. Maybe next time I’ll take advantage of their Jacuzzi too.
