Imagine leaving the blustery cold weather and walking onto an island of complete paradise. The Flat Spa of Port Washington is just the type of relaxation that everyone needs in their busy schedule. Although this Long Island spa is located off of the chaotic Northern Boulevard, once you walk in, you will find that it is small, private, and cozy. Yolanda, the owner, set a beach theme for the spa, which really added to the serenity.  Each room is candle lit and played calming sounds and peaceful music.

When I came in for my appointment, friendly technicians immediately greeted me and offered tea or water. Before my massage and facial, I was asked to fill out a brief medical history form to ensure that I get the treatment that was right for me. In the first room, I received my massage. I was amazed with how the decors in the room set the mood. The blue, white and beige colors reminded me of a beach that would be on Caribbean island. There were skylights on the ceiling covered with white canopies. In the background I heard tropical birds and waves of the ocean. The Signature Massage, which I received, is a customized combination of Shiatsu, Energy Work and Sweedish massage. In addition to the Signature Massage, the spa offers Hot Stone Massage, Head/Neck/Back massage and Reflexology. Each massage is customized based according to each person’s needs and wants. The masseuse realized that my forearms were tight from typing all day and worked on relaxing the muscles.

After the massage was over, I was given water, a robe and slippers. The second room is where I received my facial. The mood of the room was just as soothing as the first. It was surrounded by candles and played soft piano music. The technician evaluated my face. Since I have dry skin and a few blackheads. She gave me a customized treatment that was just right for my skin. She moisturized my face and used steam to open up my pores. She also used serum to hydrate my skin. When she removed my blackheads she mentioned that it might sting in sensitive areas such as my lips. Lucky for me, I didn’t feel any pain. Afterwards, she put a cool mask for deep and sensitive cleaning. While I was waiting for the mask to reach its fullest effect, she massaged my neck, shoulders, arms and hand, which most technicians in other spas do not do. She gave me some samples of Skin Ceuticals, the products she used on my skin. She gave me information on how to apply them and tips on how I could improve my skin. I liked that the products she used were not heavy or greasy. I was also pleased that she didn’t pressure me to purchase them.

The spa does have a third room, but it is under construction. When it will be completed, it will be used for individual massages, facials and couple massages.  Besides coming home relaxed, I found it easy to sleep at night and continued to feel relaxed the next day. I was very pleased with my experience. I really feel that my massage and facial was personalized to my body.  The technicians were also nice enough to work around my hectic schedule. I do believe that they accommodate to your needs.
